Sidney's Arcadia
Philip Sidney wrote extensively about both Arcadia and his thwarted love for Penelope Rich. In his books Penelope Rich was described as the ideal woman but also as the object of his lust. Avisa complains to the suitor D.B. that he has lust and not love for her and also complains that his books depict her in a negative light. Interestingly the artist for the title page is again William Rogers the same artist of the Willobie His Avisa title page. Arcadia was published in 1590 and 1593 Astrophil and Stella 1591 . and 1598. These were best selling texts.
